What a week, eh? After a slow start to the season, with one point from six, Arsenal head up to Watford...well, not an entirely new team, obviously, but a very refreshed one with the purchases this week (still to be completed, but you know) of Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez.
Obviously, neither will be in the squad this weekend, but if transfers lift the spirits, things at Arsenal must be pretty dang happy right now.
Arsenal at Watford
When: Saturday, August 27, 2016 - 7AM PT/10AM ET/3PM BT
Where: Vicarage Road Stadium, Watford
Importance: For Arsenal, this is sort of an important match, as they look for their first win of the season and look to move into the half of the table in which they belong, while waiting for the two new players to be able to make an impact. For Watford, a win would vault them over Arsenal in the table and be three important points in a season where they are looking to build on last year’s strong Premier League debut.
Key players: Look for more growth and development from Granit Xhaka, who is settling into the side quite nicely, and also Rob Holding, who quietly may turn out to be one of the best things Arsene did this summer. For Watford, they have a guy named Isaac Success, which is amazing. They also have a centerback named Christian Kabasele, who is the Kos of their defense; as he goes, so go Watford, at least at the back.
Key injuries/omissions:
Probable starters: Not many changes from last week, so:
Cech; Hector, Holding, Kos, Nacho; Santi (although Özil may get the nod here), Xhaka, Elneny (lol who are we kidding it’s gonna be Coq there), Sanchez; Ox, Walcott.
