Despite taking part in Arsenal’s preseason action, concerns over Santi Cazorla’s fitness have been risen by Arsene Wenger. Following a five month layoff last season due to an injured knee, the midfielder was expected to be ready for the start of this season but has struggled to regain form.
Following Arsenal’s 3-1 preseason win against Chivas Guadalajara, Wenger told reporters, "At the moment he is not completely there on the fitness front. That's why I took him off at half-time. He's a bit behind the others physically but I think he will be alright, maybe not on Aug. 15, but at the end of August he should be alright."
This might not be too shocking a revelation (particularly with those of us who share an age range or higher with Santi), but it adds to the rotation woes to the start of the season. Although the midfield has boalster by the news that Aaron Ramsey and Alexis Sanchez are in action, one would think Wenger would’ve been happier not having to rely on them so immediately.
Still, always look on the bright side of things; should Cazorla miss time, the door should remain open for one Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain to finally grasp some solid playing time. Again.
I mean, seriously, Ox... it’s right there! Take the damn chance!
