Julian Draxler, who has been mentioned as a possible signing as Arsenal look to improve their forward line, will not be leaving this summer. Klaus Allofs, Wolfsburg’s manager, told Sport 1 that Draxler will 100% stay at Wolfsburg, saying “He will stay at VfL. There is no discussion.”
Draxler only signed for Wolfsburg last season, but had been rumoured to be frustrated at the club and seeking a move, as Wolfsburg finished in 8th, 10 points behind Granit Xhaka’s 4th placed Borussia Monchengladbach.
Arsenal have also been linked with another frustrated German wide attacking player, Mario Götze, but the 24-year old, who has also been linked with moves to Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, appears to be on the verge of returning to Borussia Dortmund, who will also sign Andre Schürrle from Wolfsburg.
With Olivier Giroud absent for the first few weeks of the season following his exertions for France, and Danny Welbeck out until February, Arsenal’s need for at the very least a wide attacking player is clear. With Draxler and Götze seemingly no longer options, the task is a little more difficult.
