I've really enjoyed The Independent's (http://independent.co.uk) coverage of EURO 2016, so I'm actually just turning this into The Independent Fodder today. Enjoy their coverage of Portugal's win over France to become continental champions for the first time.

So the one-man team become European champions, defeating the host nation without the one man they apparently could not win without.
