Wolfsburg left back Ricardo Rodriguez says he expects to be on the move this summer, and he'd be open to joining Arsenal. The Swiss defender is roommates with new Arsenal man Granit Xhaka, so there's already a connection there and everything.
Rodriguez says he's not sure exactly what's going to happen, but he's interested in the possibilities.
I don't know where I'll be going, everything's still open. It's also not impossible to continue at Wolfsburg, even though it might be unrealistic right now. There are many big clubs. The English clubs have a lot of money, Spain is a great league.
Regarding Arsenal specifically, he's got some interest.
That'd be exciting, yes, especially as we'd have already solved the rooming question at Arsenal.
Rodriguez has a €25 million release clause, and as such Wolfsburg sporting executive Klaus Allofs knows the club has little control over what happens next – and even that it may be better for them if Rodriguez does leave.
This is no news to us. That's the agreement we struck with Ricardo. When we last talked his plan was clear. He wanted to leave us. A difficult season is behind us. We only need players with a clear mind. If the commitment to Wolfsburg's not there, it's better to part ways.
Arsenal obviously have a pretty darn good left back in Nacho Monreal, but he'll turn 31 next season and Rodriguez is 23 (his birthday's in August, so he'll hit 24 this summer). Especially if Kieran Gibbs is on the way out, the time may be ripe to get the man of the future. Maybe Xhaka Flocka Flame can convince him to move during the Euros.
