After a long, scrappy, sometimes ugly game that saw one player from each team sent off in the first half, the Copa America concluded tonight with Chile winning 4-2 on penalties at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Arsenal’s own Alexis Sanchez, the most fouled player of the tournament, picked up another honor tonight after the final whistle, being named Player of the Tournament for his performance throughout the month.

His tournament? Oh, just two goals, three assists, and a whole bunch of what Arsenal fans have come to expect from him week in and week out.
The only worrying thing is that he was subbed off in the 104th minute; he’d been carrying an injury most of the game, and he was finally withdrawn with 15 minutes to play. My most fervent hope is that Alexis Sanchez now does literally nothing between now and late July; doesn’t run, doesn’t sweat, doesn’t even draw a deep breath. He has definitely earned both the accolades and the break, and I hope he returns to training rested and ready to lift a few more trophies next season.
