A new report from the Evening Standard says that Arsenal stars Mesut Özil and Alexis Sánchez want to be among the top paid players in the Premier League. Paul Pogba is currently the highest paid player in the league with a salary of £290,000 a week, and Özil and Sanchez are looking for something in that area.
Per the Standard, “The pair have just over 18 months left on their current contracts and talks have reached something of an impasse – particularly with Sanchez – as Arsenal would have to shatter their current salary structure to accommodate their requests.”
Well, anytime the words “impasse” and “shatter” are used you know the situation is serious.
The Standard reports that Arsenal is prepared to offer each player wages of around £200,000 a week, “ . . . but that is unlikely to satisfy either player.”
So, not great Bob. Özil and Alexis have become essential pieces for Arsenal, and losing either, or both, would be a devastating blow for the club after it seemed to have put the financial burden of building a new stadium behind it. Hopefully something can get worked out.
