Looks like Arsenal will not be getting one of the big items on their holiday list this year.
Julian Draxler, a German international who has been linked with Arsenal for years now, is instead likely to end up with Paris Saint-Germain, per the Express.
“According to the report by French net outlet Get French Football, Draxler has told his Germany team-mate and PSG goalkeeper Kevin Trapp that he is keen to move to Paris,” the Express reports. “And French TV station Canal + are claiming discussions between the parties are already at an advanced stage”
So yeah, a lot of smoke surrounding this one. Given Arsenal’s financial status in world soccer, it’s not too surprising they would lose out on a highly touted transfer target to a super-rich club like PSG.
Still, it’s a disappointing blow for the club. Draxler is a nice talent, and he would have been a good boost for the team as it looks to rebound from two straight Premier League losses and get back into the title race.
Also, let’s hope there wasn’t a lot of merit to those rumors that Özil was hoping for the club to sign Draxler.
