It’s been seven long months, but, as of this week, Danny Welbeck will be back in full training with the Arsenal first team next week, right on schedule. Given that at Arsenal, any time period given for an injury tends to extend itself by a few weeks or a month or two, this is fantastic news.
Welbeck injured himself in a 2-2 draw with Manchester City in May, after having recovered from a previous knee injury in April 2015 that saw him sidelined for 10 months. He returned from that injury in February and was playing fairly well until this latest setback.
Welbeck has only played four months in the last two years, and it is hoped that this latest surgery will have permanently fixed the “significant cartilage problem” Welbeck was dealing with, and that he can now be a contributor to Arsenal again and give them needed depth and solidity as we head into 2017 and, hopefully, extended runs at three major trophies.
