Arsenal loanee Wojciech Szczesny (remember him?) is well into his second season at Roma, and according to the Polish press he’s feeling pretty good about his progress.
Everyone's favorite shower-smoking Pole has seemingly locked down the #1 spot after starting Roma’s first 12 Serie A games and has helped the team reach second place in the league table, not far behind Juventus.
“Definitely yes [I’m developing at Roma],” he told Polish outlet Laczy nas Pilka. “I feel great – physically the best during my career. I’ve learned a lot in Italy; I’m certainly not wasting time here.”
The 26-year-old has only given up 12 goals so far this season and has four clean sheets, an almost identical record to Petr Cech in as many games for Arsenal. There are still plenty of games to play this season, and generally speaking Serie A tends to be lower-scoring than the Premier League, but that still shows significant improvement.
The question is whether Szczesny would be willing to return to the Emirates in the near future if a starting spot isn’t guaranteed. Cech still has two years on his contract after this season finishes, and earlier this year Szczesny expressed interest in a permanent move to Roma.
