It’s international week, which starts everyone’s “please don’t let (our player) get injured because of dumb pointless internationals” engines racing. Most times, that’s the emotion people have during the actual games, but this international break, we get a jumpstart! Hooray?
Anyway, while I can’t find any additional clarification from another source anywhere, and thus must take this with a bit of a grain of salt, this report from CNN Chile is pretty alarming. It uses the phrases “set off alarms”, “muscle pains”, and “taken to medical measurements” (thanks, Google Translate!).
It also says that Alexis “may have suffered a tear”, but again, with no backup or corroboration I’m not going to freak out too much just yet. I am, however, going to freak out a little, because Alexis Sanchez, who famously doesn’t like to rest or be given games off, is heading down the highway towards the exit marked “injury prone” right now, and that’s not a journey I want him on.
UPDATE 1PM PT: The Guardian is now running the story as well, and calling it a “low grade muscle tear”.
