Arsene Wenger believes that Mesut Özil can become an Arsenal legend-IF he signs a new contract with the club.
Wenger went so far as to compare Özil to former Arsenal no. 10 Dennis Bergkamp, who has a statue outside Emirates stadium.
“Can Ozil become an Arsenal legend like Bergkamp? I think so, I think if he commits,” Wenger said, according to the Daily Mail. “Dennis Bergkamp committed for a long period, played until he was 38. I hope we have 10 more years of Ozil. To become a legend at the club you need to stay a long time.”
Ten more years of Özil doing stuff like this and this for the Gunners sounds pretty good to me.
Wenger’s comments come as the club is currently negotiating a new contract with Özil. Özil is one of the most brilliant midfielders in the world, so there is no arguing with Wenger that if he stays with Arsenal he should go down as a club legend. Here’s to hoping that a new contract gets done.
