Bayern Munich left-back and Manchester United target David Alaba would prefer to join Arsenal if he leaves his current club for the Premier League.

United have been linked with the 24-year old Austrian international over the past week, and while the defender recently signed a deal in March that keeps him in Munich until 2021, it is understood that he would rather link up with Arsène Wenger than José Mourinho.

It is believed that Arsenal have ramped up their interest in the left-back after standards at Bayern have fallen under the reign of Carlo Ancelotti. A boyhood Arsenal fan, Alaba has reportedly expressed more interest in the Gunners than the club that is more actively pursuing him.

Skilled in both defense and midfield, and considered the best in the world at his position, Alaba is valued at roughly £34 million by the Bundesliga champions. With Nacho Monreal (30) and Kieran Gibbs (27) currently filling in at left-back, bringing in Alaba would be a clever buy for Arsenal.

This past summer, Wenger briefly inquired about Wolfsburg left-back Ricardo Rodriguez only to see the German club refuse to sell the Swiss international. So one can see that the interest in finding another defender is there, but only time will tell whether it’s a matter of priority.
