Arsenal midfielder Joel Campbell has been called up for the Costa Rican National Team’s upcoming set of World Cup qualifiers against Trinidad and Tobago and the U.S.A.
The news comes as no surprise, as while Campbell has yet to really break through with the Arsenal first team, he has been a key part of Costa Rica’s squad for years now, even playing a key role in Los Ticos’s run to the quarterfinals of the 2014 World Cup.
Campbell is currently in the midst of a season-long loan to Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon, where he has two league goals in five appearances so far.
Congrats on the call up Joel, and best of luck to you in your international soccer adventures. Hopefully you play so well that we can all convince ourselves you’re about to put it all together and become the next big Arsenal star, and that Wenger was shortsighted for sending you out on loan in the first place.
