Wenger talks Bellerín’s replacement

Jenkinson and Gabriel are the main options

Héctor Bellerín will miss tomorrow’s match at Manchester United due to injury, which leaves Arsene Wenger to ponder a couple of different options for replacing him.

“The options are basically [Carl] Jenkinson - because [Mathieu] Debuchy will play his first game back on Friday with the under-23s - and also Gabriel because he played a few times at left back for Villarreal,” Wenger told the Arsenal website.

While the website mentions that Shkodran Mustafi has played at right back for Germany, Wenger says he does not want to mess with a backline that has been working well so far this season, which seems pretty reasonable.

Bellerín has been terrific this season, even earning the distinguished honor of “rumored Barcelona transfer target,” so the idea of replacing him with Jenkinson or Gabriel in one of the biggest matches of the season is, well, not ideal.

If it is any consolation, Manchester United will be dealing with plenty of injury problems of their own.
