With a trip to Old Trafford just days away, Petr Cech isn't downplaying the importance of a win for both sides.
The Czech keeper spoke to Arsenal Player, emphasizing that a win on the road would not only put pressure on league leaders Liverpool, but also put a little breathing room between the Gunners and the Red Devils.
“With United, they are behind us, so to leave them [further] behind is one aim and the second thing is to stay near the top, within touching distance of everyone else,” he said. “If United want to think about closing the gap and having a chance to fight for the title, they need the three points.”
As for how he and his teammates can walk away with the right result, Cech wants to see Arsenal dictate the flow of the game.
“It is a big game for both teams and they will try to give themselves a chance, and we have to be ready to adapt to their way of playing,” he added. “As the match goes, you want to impose your game and control what is happening.”
It’s no secret that Arsenal’s form at Old Trafford in recent years has been less than ideal—the Gunners have only collected three league wins there in the Premier League era. Throw Jose Mourinho into the mix and you have the stuff incredibly annoying nightmares are made of. Or, just maybe, a chance for the club to throw two monkeys off its back at once.
