Wenger is no fan of the Ballon d’Or

The award encourages individualism, the boss believes.

Ballon d’Or? More like Ballon d’Snore, am I right?!

A short-list of 30 nominees for soccer’s biggest individual trophy was recently released, and no Arsenal player was on it, but whatever, that’s fine, you know Arsene Wenger didn’t even want to go to the Ballon d’Or ceremony it’s a stupid award anyway.

“I am against it because I think it gets in the head of players,” Wenger told a recent press conference. "We have seen many people only thinking about themselves because they are obsessed by the Ballon d'Or and not by the team performance, and I believe football is a collective sport and we live already in a world where everything is individualised.”

Wenger has made similar comments in the past, and even found a surprising ally on the subject in Jose Mourinho, who said, “I think he is right, In this moment, football is losing a little bit the concept of the team to focus more on the individual.”
