Given how much discussion of a given sports team revolves around the zero sum game of winning or losing trophies, it’s nice to be reminded every so often that these are human beings we’re talking about, and sometimes pretty decent ones at that.
Former Arsenal and Brazil midfielder Edu has done just that in a recent interview, where he talked about how Wenger supported him as he made the transition to Arsenal a mere week after his sister passed away.
“I received a lot of support from Arsene,” Edu said. “I learned a lot from Arsene Wenger and I carry with me what he taught me until today. He treated me like a son when I lost my sister, he was a guy that embraced not only me but my entire family.”
Whatever you think of his managerial approach on the pitch as of late, Wenger is pretty clearly a classy dude off of it. Good for you Arsene, good for you.
