Although Alex Iwobi has made himself a fixture in the Arsenal starting XI in the left wing role, he played as a no. 10 in Arsenal’s recent League Cup match against Reading, and Wenger believes he has the tools to play the position full time eventually. As Wenger told the Daily Mirror:
“You see that he is not a typical winger . . . He turns the game forward, he passes the ball through the lines very well, he has a final ball in him”
Of course, the Gunners currently have one of the best no. 10s in the world in Mesut Ozil on their squad, so hopefully Ozil’s contract extension works out and Iwobi will have plenty of competition at that no. 10 spot for the foreseeable future.
Wenger also said that he would like to see Iwobi improve his finishing in front of goal. The boss believes Iwobi’s weakness is that, much like the Golden State Warriors in a seven-game championship series, Iwobi gets too nervous when given a goal-scoring opportunity.
