When: Tuesday, October 24, 2016 11.45AM PT/2.45PM ET/7.45PM BT
Where: Emirates Stadium, London
Importance: A win and Arsenal move to the QFs of the League Cup for the first time since 2012-13... which considering it is utilized as game time for the youth and backups, isn’t that surprising. Still, winning is a good habit to have and Arsenal will want to progress while getting a few players up to speed, mainly Olivier Giroud. Also, Reading are always a fun match, as any lover of 12 goal gong shows will attest to.
Key players: What form will Giroud bring to the team? His rust will likely be the critical point on attack. But with Lucas Perez, Alex Iwobi and Jeff Reine-Adelaide likely in the side, there will be a lot of support. If they can find an early goal, things should settle pretty quickly.
Key injuries/omissions: It’s not a game the injured will play but Aaron Ramsey not being ready means he misses the obvious tune up game for his return and the bit of respite the central midfield could use with Santi Cazorla injured and Granit Xhaka suspended.
Probable starters:
Martinez; Maitland-Niles, Holding, Gabriel, Gibbs (c); Elneny, Coquelin; Perez, Iwobi, JEFF, Giroud.
