Arsenal will know the name of their third round Capital One Cup opponent later today, as The Football League holds their draw following the conclusion of the second rounds matches being held tonight. They join up in the competition at this stage of the competition, along with the rest of the English clubs who qualified for European play.
Unlike the second round, where Premier League clubs were seeded and thus unable to be drawn against each other, the third round - and the remainder of the draws - will be entirely unseeded, which means Arsenal can either draw a League One side, or, say, Chelsea away.
The Gunners have been assigned ball number 25, means very little except to know when their ball is randomly pulled. The rest of the clubs and their assignments are as follows:
1. Aston Villa or Notts County
2. Walsall or Brighton & Hove Albion
3. Crystal Palace or Shrewsbury Town
4. Sheffield Wednesday or Oxford United
5. Portsmouth or Reading
6. Hartlepool United or Bournemouth
7. Fulham or Sheffield United
8. MK Dons or Cardiff City
9. Hull City or Rochdale
10. Sunderland or Exeter City
11. Bury or Leicester City
12. Doncaster Rovers or Ipswich Town
13. Rotherham United or Norwich City
14. Swansea City or York City
15. QPR or Carlisle United
16. Barnsley or Everton
17. Petersborough United or Charlton Athletic
18. Birmingham City or Gillingham
19. Newcastle United or Northampton Town
20. West Bromwich Albion or Port Vale
21. Wolverhampton Wanderers or Barnet
22. Burton Albion or Middlesbrough
23. Luton Town or Stoke City
24. Preston North End or Watford
25. Arsenal
26. Chelsea
27. Liverpool
28. Manchester City
29. Manchester United
30. Southampton
31. Tottenham Hotspur
32. West Ham United
Third round matches will be played in the week of September 21st.
