Danny Welbeck has not been named in Arsenal's team for the Barclays Asia Trophy, as the 24-year old striker is still suffering from the knee injury he sustained towards the end of last season. According to Arsène Wenger, "Welbeck isn't completely recovered from the problem he had [at the end of last season]. He's not back in full training so he will stay behind". The Mirror and Mail report that Welbeck still has bruising on his knee joint, and that the striker is targeting the Emirates Cup for his return.
Tomas Rosicky will also be absent, following a small injury he picked up while playing for the Czech Republic. The more cynical among us may put his absence together with his unhappiness about playing time and presume that Rosicky may be on the way out, but there has been nothing to indicate that this is the case.
With many of the squad only returning to training on Friday, Arsenal are likely to play two different teams in the Barclays Asia Trophy. The players who returned on Monday, such as Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta, Per Mertesacker and Nacho Monreal, are likely to start in the first game, on Wednesday, against the Singapore national side.
