Arsenal will face Sunderland at home to kick off their entry into the third round of the 2015-16 FA Cup. The game will take place sometime between Jan. 8 and 11. That would put the game in between the home game against Newcastle, Jan. 2, and a trip to Liverpool, Jan. 13.
Despite 44 teams from lower leagues and just 20 Premier League teams, Arsenal have drawn a fellow Premier League side. It will be a familiar foe as Arsenal are coming off of a 3-1 home victory Sunderland in the weekend.
Advancing out of the second round are 20 teams from below the Championship, mostly of League One and Two membership, but at least one team from the National League, Eastleigh F.C., will play the third round. The third round will see all 20 Premier League teams and all 24 Championship teams in their first action of the tournament.
Of note among the other games, Tottenham have drawn league-leading Leicester City. Manchester United will host four-time FA Cup winners Sheffield United. Relegation-threatened Chelsea will take on either Leyton Orient or Scunthorpe United. Manchester City will travel to Norwich.
Arsenal have won the FA Cup the last two seasons and 12 times overall, more than any other club.
