Mesut Ozil is a wonderful human being

Aside from being a World Cup winner, Mesut Ozil is also a winner of hearts as he's set to pay for the surgery of 23 Brazilian children.

Mesut Ozil is wonderful. You're aware of this as much as I am. And if you're not, I would like to repeat that Mesut Ozil is wonderful.

Prior to the World Cup, Ozil partnered with the "BigShoe" charity initiative, which helps fund operations for needy children ranging from cleft lips to congenital disorders, in order to sponsor the operations of 11 children. This alone is a great gesture and reminder of the kindness of the human spirit, but after helping Germany to win their fourth World Cup title, he went one step further.

Via his Facebook page, Ozil says he will now sponsor the surgeries for 23 children instead, detailing that the Germans victory was due to the work of all 23 players on the team:

Dear fans,

Prior to the #WorldCup I supported the surgery of eleven sick children. Since the victory of the #WorldCup is not only due to eleven players but to our whole team, I will now raise the number to 23. This is my personal thank-you for the hospitality of the people of Brazil.

It was reported earlier that Ozil was donating his bonuses to the children in Gaza, and while this was denied by his agent, the sponsoring of these surgeries is an incredible initiative. No one of course will be happier than the children but once again, Ozil shows that he's not only a beautiful footballer but a very incredible human being.
