Alexis Sanchez picks shirt number, throws squad into disarray

Well, sort of.

not 9 anymore, bub

Every player needs a shirt number. Alexis Sanchez is a player, and thus, this applies to him. But what number would he pick? If you follow Arsenal on Instagram (or were on Twitter last night), you'll know by now that Sanchez will wear the 17 shirt, for next season at least. But what does this mean?

First of all, Sanchez has worn two numbers lately - the 9 for Barcelona, and the 7 for Chile. Those are both taken by older and more established senior players at Arsenal, by Lukas Podolski and Tomas Rosicky. The 17, though, was also taken already but Nacho Monreal. So what do we have here? Did Sanchez not feel like asking Poldi or Rosicky for their numbers? Did Nacho volunteer his, to be relegated to the 18 of Squillaci and Silvestre (seriously, why would you pick 18)? Was there a random decision?

Either way, it doesn't really matter. But it's fun to imagine Podolski and Rosicky throwing barricades up in their lockers so nobody could take their shirts, so that's what I'm going to do.
