Arsenal to face Wigan in FA Cup semi-final

The FA Cup draw and result between Manchester City and Wigan will see Arsenal face Wigan at Wembley.

Paul Gilham

Arsenal will face holders Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup semi-final. The fixture will take place at Wembley on the weekend of April 12 and 13. Holders Wigan progressed to the semi-final after beating Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium 2-1, in a repeat upset of last year's final, where Roberto Martinez's side beat City 1-0.

If it didn't already, the FA Cup now represents Arsenal's best chance at silverware this season. They are two games away from winning the trophy, and the other semi-final features Hull City against Sheffield United. Of course, this sounds vaguely similar to the League Cup in 2011, where Arsenal were left with Ipswich, West Ham and Birmingham City. That, obviously, ended terribly, but this team has been far more mentally stronger than previous itinerants, and are far more likely to remain focused at Wembley. If they do, there's no reason why Arsenal can't lift the Cup in May.
