Liverpool vs. Arsenal: match thread

The first of two matches versus the Merseyside club in an eight day span, Arsenal start their spate of tough challenges at Anfield in a crucial league match today.

Just a little over three months ago, Arsenal collected a 2-0 win at the Emirates versus a Liverpool side that featured marksmen Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge in the starting XI.  The two have started alongside one another for eleven league matches, and their defeat in November to Arsenal has been the only one they've both been held scoreless.  How well Arsenal's defense continue to contain the deadly duo today will go a long way in deciding whether or not the Gunners can, at minimum, pick up a point in what's quickly become one of the more important matches of this season to date.

As Thomas noted, Liverpool will be without three defensive players in Mamadou Sakho, Daniel Agger and Glen Johnson (who also missed the trip to the Emirates earlier this season), which means the Reds will once again face Arsenal without, arguably, their top two center backs.  Expect Liverpool to continue their run of starting four defenders which they reverted back to, following an early-season experiment of fielding three defenders, after their loss to Arsenal, with used car salesman and former Gunner Kolo Toure - creator of terrible passes across his own penalty box - getting the nod.

Finally, the last bit of Arsenal news that you need to know heading into today's match isn't so much news as it is a reminder to everyone reading this morning that we're by far the greatest goddamn team the world has ever seen.  Remember this, sing this, and tell others around you this important article of truth.  All the other noise and talk surrounding the club at the moment is, and always will be, short-term and, in the grand scheme of things, highly insignificant.

Below are the lineups for today's featured match:

Liverpool: Mignolet; Flanagan, Toure, Skrtel, Cissokho; Gerrard, Henderson, Coutinho; Sterling, Suarez, Sturridge
Subs: Jones, Kelly, Ibe, Moses, Aspas, Allen, Alberto

Arsenal: Szczesny; Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal; Arteta, Wilshere; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Özil, Cazorla; Giroud
Subs: Fabianski, Jenkinson, Gibbs, Rosicky, Gnabry, Podolski, Bendtner

As always, remember the rules. Be nice, don't be vile, and don't ask for or provide links to illegal streams.

COYG, you beautiful people.
