According to Arsene Wenger after the 3-1 win against Sunderland, midfielder Santi Cazorla is injured and will be out a moderately extended period of time.
Cazorla has an ankle problem. He will be out for a few weeks as well. I don’t think he will play before the next international break.
That break is October 6, and I swear to God if Cazorla plays for Spain before he plays for Arsenal I will find Vicente del Bosque and slap him in his face. Arsenal play six times between now and then:
Date | Opponent | Competition | Location |
---|---|---|---|
September 18 | Marseille | Champions League | Away |
September 22 | Stoke City | Premier League | Home |
September 25 | West Bromwich Albion | Capital One Cup | Away |
September 28 | Swansea City | Premier League | Away |
October 1 | Napoli | Champions League | Home |
October 6 | West Bromwich Albion | Premier League | Away |
The league matches aren't too terribly challenging, but with a pair of tough European matches mixed in as well as a cup match, this injury may end up being annoying. On the other hand, Arsenal looked pretty good offensively without Cazorla today, so perhaps the line can be held.
