I write to you all today to let you know that I am stepping down as manager of The Short Fuse. It is not a decision that I made lightly, and most of my reasons for doing so are either boring, personal, personally boring, or boringly personal. SB Nation has been a wonderful place to write about and discuss the sport we all love, but lately, well, basically what it boils down to is that due to a variety of factors, I just haven't been able to 1) make this blog what I think it should be in my mind, and 2) have as much fun thinking about Arsenal or sports.
Most of the factors behind the former are incredibly tedious, and most of those behind the latter have more to do with my personality and life/job situation than anything else by far. TSF has been one of the best things that I've ever done, and I'm incredibly proud to have gotten to know everyone who's come through and who hangs out here on a regular basis.
I should point out that I'm not vanishing--I'll still be around in some sort of capacity at TSF yet to be determined--but that as of basically today, I'll no longer be at the helm of this particular buffet. That honor, now, rests on the capable Indiana back of Mr. Thomas Wachtel, whom you know and love. I'm sure you'll all join me in congratulating him on his new appointment. The details of how the transition will occur (the twitter account, the facebook page, etc.) are in process still , but there will be plenty of time for all that as the summer rolls on. Thomas, I know, has some big ideas in mind that I'm super excited to see get off the ground as the next season approaches.
I wanted to take the space here to publicly thank all of you for visiting on the regular and for making this one of the (I hope, anyway) most fun sites about Arsenal on the whole dang internet. I look forward to continuing to converse with you all.
I want to thank, also, of course, Aidan, Thomas, Paul, and Travis, four awesome people without whom I'd have been Squillaci in the rain, writing slowly while the web passed me by. The amount of work those guys have done here has been truly staggering and absolutely wonderful, as I'm sure you'll agree.
I also want to thank Graham MacAree and Kevin McCauley for their guidance and support and willingness to put up with my occasional bouts of thinly-veiled miserablism. Also highly worthy of praise and esteem, and people whom I'd like to thank from the bottom of my heart, are all of the other SB Nation soccer writers that I've had the pleasure of working with over the past three years. I truly think that the writers and community make SB Nation a way way way more fun place to learn about what's happening in sports than anywhere else, and I couldn't be more proud to have worked with everyone here, and will continue to be proud to do so.
So, with that, Mr. Wachtel will have the conn. I'll see you all soon, and I leave you now with this (don't sweat the lyrics too much; I'm not breaking up with you guys):
