Arsenal 2 - 1 Aston Villa: Instant Reaction, "Phew"

New, comments

That was a wild one.

Michael Regan

Arsenal have defeated Aston Villa 2 - 1 in a game that could be best described as "IEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEIEIEEIIEIEIIEIIIIEEEKAJ;FAKLSJDAFJAADJAFKS;DLFJ". Neither team seemed particularly bothered by little things like defending or shape. We'll have a full report for you in a couple hours, but for now, here are some quick thoughts:

-- Here's Arsenal's second goal from Cazorla:

[and 7500 to Holte]

-- Arsenal need to figure out how to press again. Midfielders might as well have not even been there at times today.

-- How many counters are we going to give this team from our own corner kicks?

-- Andreas Weimann and Christian Benteke...hmm. Hmm.

-- Carl Jenkinson, overall, had a pretty solid showing against Gabriel Agbonlahor. He had a few moments of weirdness but was able to recover.

-- Arsenal sometimes, in addition to pressing, seem to miss a ball-winner in midfield, but Mikel Arteta was doing his best to intercept things today.

-- At least seven misplaced, easy passes from our midfield led directly to vicious Villa counters today.

-- We had two chances when we should have squared but shot instead, and for the most part our aerial crosses were woeful.

-- Nacho was leaving a ton of space behind him, but did well on our second goal.

What are your reactions? Who do you think stood out or derped so hard today?
