England manager Roy Hodgson, according to Arsenal's official website as well as Sky Sports News, will call up Arsenal starting left back Kieran Gibbs to join Jack Wilshere in the national team's squad for World Cup qualifying matches against Montenegro on Oct. 11 and Poland on Oct. 15. (The latter game likely will involve another Arsenal mainstay -- goalie Wojciech Szczęsny -- and the Montenegro game is likely to feature former Arsenal transfer target and current Manchester City depth player/Billy Squier look-alike Stevan Jovetic.)
The move is necessitated by Chelsea's Ashley Cole (I forget where he played before Chelsea) working through a rib injury.

Despite Gibbs' great start-of-season form, it's likely that Everton left back and set piece wizard Leighton Baines will get the start ahead of Gibbs, but I hear that Montenegro is lovely this time of year.
(Note to Roy: Please wrap Gibbs and Wilshere in bubble wrap and return them to the Emirates unharmed.)
