Arsenal have sent Costa Rican international striker Joel Campbell on loan to La Liga side Real Betis for the season, according to the club's official website. Campbell spent last year at Ligue 1 side Lorient, where he scored three goals in 25 appearances, including the winner over eventual French champions Montpellier.

Campbell, 20, will now seek further first-team experience in La Liga; the move also probably had much to do with issues surrounding securing a work permit to play in England. Campbell has also continued his good form for his country, having scored six goals in 14 appearances for Costa Rica, including the winner against Wales in a friendly this year. He remains an intriguing prospect at striker and is also capable of playing on the wings if need be. Another year in the first team of a side in a top league hopefully will allow him to flourish as he works to secure a permit to play in England soon, and the slight step up in defensive quality in La Liga should help.
