Marouane Chamakh signs for Arsenal

New, comments

As Scrupio noted in a comment, Arsenal have officially signed Marouane Chamakh from Bordeaux.  No fee has been announced.  UPDATE: he came on a free transfer, is why, as Paul_Dixon points out in comments...

There will be more on the deal in Sunday's link roundup, but the signing that everyone has more or less accepted as a given has happened.  Chamakh, 26, has scored 27 goals in 53 for Morocco, scored 18 goals in 47 for Bordeaux in 2008-09, and 16 in 46 for them this season.

Arsène Wenger is obviously a big fan of the striker, and he notes that his versatility will serve him well in the Premier League, saying "He is also a fighter...he is very good in the air and also a team player."  Having another striker with size (Chamakh is 6'2") and heading ability will mean that Arsenal have another physical option up front along with Nicklas Bendtner and Robin van Persie.

He will wear #29 for Arsenal.
