A Look At A Possible Team For Coventry City

We look at the likely options for tomorrow's League Cup fixture

Aside from 2010-11, when Arsenal made the final of the League Cup, Arsenal tend to use fringe players and promising youngsters in the Capital One Cup. Last year, it was the medium in which Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain first became well-known to Arsenal fans, as did Emmanuel Frimpong, Francis Coquelin and Ignasi Miquel. Three of those players could very well feature tomorrow against League One Coventry City, but so could players who could start on Saturday against Chelsea.

One player who seems assured of starting is young goalkeeper Damian Martinez. The 20-year old Argentinean was on the bench for Arsenal's games against Stoke City, Liverpool and Manchester City, and is highly rated by Arsenal's talent evaluators. He's as tall as Wojciech Szczesny, at 6'4, and is apparently as good a shot-stopper.

Based on the Arsenal.com training pictures, and the bibs that players are wearing, he'll be joined in defence by Nico Yennaris, Johan Djourou and Ignasi Miquel, with either Martin Angha or Andre Santos filling out the back. In midfield, Francis Coquelin looks like he'll get a start, as will Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Andrey Arshavin.

Interestingly, it looks like Olivier Giroud, still looking for his first goal, and Theo Walcott, still looking to play as a centre forward, will play; both are wearing white bibs. Last season, Arsene Wenger played 4-4-2 in the Capital One Cup, with Marouane Chamakh playing up front with Park Ju-Young. With Walcott's recent demands (which probably have nothing to do with his contract) and perhaps the need to give Giroud some confidence, it wouldn't be too surprising to see the two play together tomorrow.
