With Nacho Monreal’s form taking a step back from the excellent levels it reached the past couple of season, and with Kieran Gibbs’ future with this club being in doubt, the leftback position has been targeted as an area in need of improvement this summer. Luckily for Arsenal, Schalke’s talented Sead Kolasinac is out of contract in a few months and has allegedly picked Arsene Wenger’s club as his next home despite interest from a host of other top clubs.
Per Bosnia’s Reprezentacija:
BIHscout.ba has already learned which number Kolašinac will wear at Arsenal, and has received confirmation that he will be playing for Arsenal next season under the current manager Arsene Wenger.
Obviously, nothing has been announced yet so don’t go out and buy your Kolasinac jerseys yet, but a source from his native country reporting this could mean there’s some fire behind the smoke. Kolasinac has developed as a strong, no-nonsense fullback capable of powefully roaming up and down his sideline with ease and has rebounded very nicely from an ACL injury in 2014.
If this report is true, it could be a mini coup for the club as they’d be getting a young player yet to hit his prime and on a free transfer. Not a bad bit of business but keep an eye out for bids from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City, two clubs also rumored to be interested in his services.
UPDATE 1.10PM PT:
It would appear that this report is true, if you believe Gianluca Di Marzio (he’s good):
