Before I launch into this week's topic, I did want to take a minute to remind everyone that the Off Topic post does not need to be limited to merely the topic of the post. It's an Off Topic for a reason - this thread should be used as a catch-all for anything you want to talk about (within site rules, of course) that doesn't belong in any of the front page threads. Wanna talk about your cats? This is your place! See something funny on Deadspin? Yeah, me neither, but if you did, you can talk about it here. Anything goes - soccer, not-soccer, whatever.
Anyway, on to today's topic, as suggested by HoodRiverDuck. There's a new HBO show called True Detective, and it's pretty damn awesome so far - it's Woody Harrelson and a reeeeeeeeeeeally skinny Matthew McConaughey (he probably filmed this after shooting Dallas Buyers Club) playing two detectives trying to solve a murder with occult overtones. Sounds boring, rote, and uninteresting, right? WRONG!
McConaughey's performance alone makes this show awesome, but it's also really good all the way around - it's a really slow burn of a show, very deliberately paced with no freaky detective show GOTCHA's thrown in. There's only been two episodes so far, so it'd be easy to catch up with, and you should definitely catch up with it.
Also, Community is back to top form which is great to see - last week's episode was amazing.
Any new or recent TV shows catch your interest? The Oscars are coming up, any picks or favorites?
Let's talk about stuff!
