In a bit of a surprise move, young Arsenal striker Joel Campbell will move to Greek side Olympiakos on loan for the season. Arsenal fans will be familiar with his destination club, after facing them in the Champions League group stages in each of the past two seasons. They won the league last season, and as such will once again be in the Champions League, so that's hopefully going to be good experience for Campbell.
On the other hand, he will be missing out on getting acclimatized to English soccer and the country itself. There were rumors that clubs in the range of Crystal Palace were interested in a loan earlier this year, and playing in the Premier League after a couple of years in La Liga would have taken him a step closer to Arsenal. This seems like the opposite direction. Whether this means Campbell is no longer as highly regarded as in the past, or there are other reasons we don't know about - either way, this seems an odd move, on the surface.
