Not sure if you've noticed, but soccer's becoming more popular in this country. Shocking! To what can we attribute this, I wonder? The popularity of soccer video games? The increasing participation of America's youth in a soccer system that now has a major league endpoint should a player develop his or her skills to that point?
Nope. It's baseball and steroids.
Yeah, there's a guy out there that claims the rise in soccer's popularity can be directly tied to the decline in baseball's popularity, which he attributes to the end of the "steroid era". I'm not even sure how to process that, since it's so ridiculous on so many levels.
So that's my question, as a person who's been a soccer fan for about 30 years - if you're relatively new to the sport, either as a player or as a fan, how did you get into it ? Was it through playing, or through watching, or through video games, or through another means?
Anything else on your mind this week?
