Wojciech Szczcesny, who was in the final 18 months of his contract, has signed a new long-term deal at Arsenal, following in the footsteps of Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Kieran Gibbs, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Carl Jenkinson and Theo Walcott. Arsenal have not, as per usual, revealed the length of the contract, but given Szczesny's age, 23, and the length of the contracts given to the other 6, it can be guessed that it'll be for 5 years.
Arsene Wenger said
We're very pleased Wojciech has signed a new long-term contract. I have always believed he is an extremely talented player, with excellent reflexes and good mental strength. He continues to grow and improve all the time too, so he has the potential to be even better. He can be an important part of Arsenal Football Club for many years to come
This puts the job of being Arsenal's goalkeeper in the hands of one man. Since being dropped at the beginning of March, Szczesny has responded outstandingly well, making vital saves towards the end of the season, and showing improvement in all areas: command of the penalty box, shot stopping, kicking, and his decision making, as he's no longer doing things that makes one scratch one's hand in confusion. He's been in fine form for a long period of time now, and fully deserves this new contract.
