Not Strictly Soccer Related: Tuesday Is The New Wednesday

(I would love this to be an RvP-free zone, if possible - we've talked about him enough, and there's plenty of other threads available for that discussion. Thanks!)

I usually like to put up NSSR's on Wednesdays - during the season, it's a nice midweek break, and in the off season, it's something to look forward to. But these last couple weeks have been tricky - last week was that most American of holidays, the Fourth of July, and this week I have that most American of things to do tomorrow, jury duty.

I've done jury duty once before, and it's nowhere near as interesting as I wanted it to be. I don't know how it works where you live, but here in Multnomah County, you go for a day, and if you don't get chosen for a jury, you're done. Last time I went, I got called into a trial, and got on the jury; it was kinda cool, because I'd never done this before, and I was really interested to see how the justice system works. Then I found out that the trial I was on was that most American of trials, the personal-injury lawsuit, and I could actually see my spirit and will to live leave my body.

Dude got rear-ended in a parking lot and sued his work for $500K. His work had admitted fault already, but the amount was in dispute, so that is what went to trial. We basically had to decide how much to give a guy who got into a fender-bender at his work and had a sore neck. It was...distasteful. We ended up giving him $125K. Justice!

So I'm hoping tomorrow will be a day that I sit, bored, in the waiting room and don't get called to a jury.

Have you ever done jury duty? Did you get on an interesting case?

And, since that's a fairly narrow question, here's a couple more to get the ball rolling.

1. It's July, half way through the year. What are your favorite things - movies, music, TV, comics, whatever - of the year so far? What are you looking forward to in the second half of the year?

2. Hve you recently revisited a band, book, TV show, or whatever that you always loved but haven't experienced in a while? I ask merely as an excuse to talk about how awesome my Saturday night was, because on Saturday night I got to see Redd Kross, one of my all time favorite bands, for the first time in 15 years. And I found out they're coming back in September. It was about a perfect night.

3. Any cycling fans out there watching the Tour de France? I'm not very good at watching it, because I don't really understand it, but every time I do I am amazed at what it takes to ride the Tour. I have always loved this article, in which a normal person tries to ingest as many calories in a day as Tour riders do.

That's all I got. What's on your mind this week?
