Arsenal transfer rumours: Andrei Arhsavin to Zenit St. Petersburg? Denilson to stay at Sao Paolo?

Meerkat--- AWAYYYY---- no, wait, Andrei...---come backkkkk

This morning, Twitter practically caught on fire with little hints, and then bigger hints, that something is afoot with Andrei Arshavin moving to Zenit St. Petersburg on a loan deal. First was this from Jamie Sanderson of the tremendous Young Guns (a very reliable source):

#AFC and Zenit negotiating over loan for Andrey Arshavin today. @JamesOlley says it's agreed. Still waiting on clarification.

But that was pretty noncommittal, and not sourcing anyone in particular. Arsene Wenger had much to say about it in his press conference.

But then Sky Sports got involved, and everyone got worried again:

Sky say Zenit have agreed to sign Andrey Arshavin on loan from #AFC. £1m loan fee. Window shuts at 8pm. Clubs doing paperwork now.

There has still been no official confirmation as of right now, but there is some time left. In the interim, this came out, too:

Zenit asked about Arshavin in January but wouldn't pay £6m. Likely to make loan move permanent in summer. Shame. #AFC.

So that's neat. Or not at all neat. We'll all just have to wait and see what happens, but letting Arshavin escape on loan at a time when Arsenal's midfield is thin is a curious allowance by the club. We don't have all the information about what's going on behind the scenes, obviously, but it's still a bit worrying. (Not that Arshavin was ever going to play in the middle, mind, probably).

More word hopefully coming one way or the other later on today.

In other news, Denilson might be staying in Brazil for a bit longer:

São Paulo set to meet Arsenal soon to discuss extending Denílson's season-long loan move for another six months. #AFC want a sale.

So we'll have to wait and see.
