Yesterday happened. It sucked. It will continue to suck. It's not quite as bad as the worst game I saw this year in person - Timbers v. Cal FC - but it's pretty damn close.
After a loss like that, there's a lot of venting, then there's gallows humor, then there's resignation. It's a strange process. My question this week is pretty straightforward: how do you as a fan get past a momentous loss like yesterday's? In any sport, really, it doesn't just have to be soccer, but how do you cope with a loss so epic, so unexpected as to throw you completely out of whack?
I'm not talking about the tightly contested, close, well played championship game that could have gone either way but happened to go against your team. I'm talking about games like yesterday, where your team is an undisputed favorite to win by both conventional wisdom and by any sort of analysis, and they somehow still find a way to lose. How do you get over that? Do you compartmentalize and move on? Do you drink heavily? Do you go for a run or other strenuous form of exercise in an attempt to forget?
Anything else on your mind this week? Anything else you'd care to share to distract from yesterday?
