Cesc Fabregas as Captain of the Arsenal Football Club

The Don Balon magazine issue has seemed, at most, trivial amidst the train wreck that has been Arsenal of the past few weeks. But for me (and perhaps only me) it highlights some larger issues at play. Has anybody ever sat Cesc down and explained that as captain of the club it's not ok to throw his teammates, manager, or board under the bus to every Spanish magazine that requests an interview? I don't know why it should need explaining; it shouldn't, but it sure seems like it does. It's certainly not what a team leader does. Yet we've been treated to several articles quoting Cesc about his dissatisfaction with the club or his teammates, and quite frankly it leads one to question his value as captain. Where is it written that the best player has to be the team's captain?

Drogba doesn't wear the armband for Chelsea, nor does Rooney for United, or Messi for Barca. For all Cesc has done for this club on the field I would argue he's done a lot off damage off it in the last couple years. I'm tired of our captain doing nothing to quell the Barca rumors, which have been a huge distraction. I'm tired of him sometimes publicly pining for another club. I'm tired of him throwing his team and coach under the bus. I'm tired of this team having no killer instinct whatsoever (an idictment of poor leadership). Great player? No doubt. Great leader? I don't think so.

This summer, I would implore Arsene to look into giving somebody who is proud to wear the Arsenal badge the armband. I realize this probably won't be a popular opinion. I realize I'm going to destroyed for it (first post too), but I think its a discussion worth having.
