Arsenal injury picture clearing up a bit

Not our backup goalkeeper.

Liverpool are coming to town this Sunday hot off an impressive demo job on Manchester City, and while Arsenal are still missing a few key pieces of their squad, things are looking a little more solid on the injury front.  According to manager Arsène Wenger on the club's official site, Alex Song, Denilson, Johan Djourou, and Wojciech Szczesny may all be available for Sunday, pending fitness tests.

The returns of Song and Djourou are perhaps the most crucial for Arsenal's chances on Sunday.  Song offers an energetic presence in the back of midfield, and his movement and positioning would help disrupt what looks to be a budding partnership between Geordie Giant Andy Carroll, and Uruguyan...Ur...Uran...Urga...hmm...Uruguyan...second striker Luis Suarez, who slides around behind the former.  Carroll's size and aerial presence would be at least partially alleviated by the presence of Djourou, who offers more in the air than Sebastien Squillaci or Laurent Koscielny.

It would be nice to have Bacary Sagna back to help defend against crosses to Carroll as well, but alas, it looks as if the less-defensive Emmanuel Eboue will start again at right back.  Szczesny would help a lot in goal, as Manuel Almunia looks to be out.  Jens Lehmann looked okay, if a bit slower that he used to be.  If Szczesny and Almunia are both out, James Shea will most likely come in as a backup to Lehmann.
